At DENSO we believe technology is a matter of providing automakers with innovative ideas and products for making cars better, safer, more reliable and more affordable.

We work closely with our customers and develop creative engineering solutions. We work to maximize safety, efficiency and complete customer satisfaction.

DENSO's expansive global network allows us to offer unparalleled customer support. We operate in 33 countries and regions and employ nearly 120,000 individuals who specialize in sales, product development, design and manufacturing.

Research and Development

DENSO was founded on the principles of vision and foresight. Each year, we invest about 8 percent of consolidated net sales back into R&D. Many of our employees worldwide dedicate themselves exclusively to researching and developing competitive products and unique technology three to 15 years in advance of market introduction.

It's our anticipation of customer needs that keeps us on the cutting-edge of technology innovation.

DENSO consistently ranks at the top of the automotive industry for patents generated each year. We aggressively pursue new patents and work hard to protect our current innovations. DENSO's creative engineers are constantly developing systems and components, which is why we hold more than 33,000 active patents—7,300 in the United States.

Concurrent Engineering

DENSO was one of the first in the auto industry to adopt a practice known as concurrent engineering. The idea works by placing product planning, design and production engineering together at the start in order to improve communication and decision making. Our thorough planning process even considers manufacturing delivery times and costs.

This collaborative approach has helped us create a strong bond with customers. Some additional benefits include:

  • Streamlined design and development phases of new product design
  • Systemization and modularization of smaller and lighter components
  • More competitive, standardized components
  • Reduced delivery time
  • Reduced costs

Engineering and Testing Capability

DENSO's Technical Center in Southfield, Mich., includes a full-size wind tunnel, electromagnetic compatibility chamber, thermal mannequins and more.

Our test and technical labs simulate a variety of real-world driving conditions that allow engineers to develop real-world, practical solutions. Production engineers also work to support manufacturing and engineering at North American DENSO group companies to make improvements and address any issues that may arise in our manufacturing processes.

Put simply, we can make it, test it and improve it—all in North America.
